Law360 Founder May Start Rival to WSJ

Marius Meland, co-founder and CEO of legal news site Law360, may take on The Wall Street Journal as his next act. Mr. Meland is contemplating launching a new subscription-news publication to directly compete with the WSJ. His thinking is still in its early stages but it’s known he recently tried to acquire the domain Memo.com, which is owned by tech entrepreneur Philippe Kahn.

It’s worth taking Mr. Meland’s ambitions seriously. Law360 regularly broke news on the legal beat. Mr. Meland sold the site to online research firm LexisNexis in 2012 for $150 million.

Contacted by email, Mr. Meland said he was “still exploring ideas” for his next venture and hadn’t settled on a business model. He declined to elaborate.
